We Both Know What Memories Can Bring, They Bring Diamonds And Rust

Today I will upload a pair of songs; actually, they are the same songs-it's just that one of them is the studio version and the other is the live version-of the Judas Priest cover of the song "Diamonds And Rust", by folk artist Joan Baez. I've actually heard the Baez version once before on the radio; it's a folk song, so believe me it sounds quite different from the version by Priest, to say the least (and I'm a poet and didn't know it).

The studio version is from the 1977 album Sin By Sin, while the live version is from the 1979 album Unleashed In The East, recorded in Tokyo. Both are very good tunes, but I usually prefer the live version just a little bit more. It's faster paced and just a little bit catchier (especially the opening) but both should be downloaded.

I'll be back Saturday afternoon with an upload of an Ozzy song. No, it's not his new single I Don't Wanna Stop as you can hear that on radio and it's currently number 2 on the Billboard "Hot Mainstream Record Tracks" chart so it's too "popular" for a blog like this, but wait until you see the upload I have, where Ozzy covers a song that you'd think would be among the last tunes he'd ever sing.

The Radio Played That Forgotten Song

Everyone knows the Golden Earring song "Radar Love". It's been featured in movies like Wayne's World 2 and can still be heard often on classic rock radio stations. It's a legendary song and it's reputation is well-deserved. It has also been recorded and played live by many other bands. I will now present one of those cover versions-this one is by White Lion.

White Lion is a band whose songs I otherwise don't really care for, but they did a great job on delivering a heavy metal cover of Radar Love. Yeah, they made it less musically adventurous than the original, but it's still a very good song. I've only heard it on the radio a few times, which is a shame, as I think it's by far the best White Lion tune.

I'll be back Thursday afternoon with a pair of songs.

I Wish Paris Hilton Was Blind

I'll make this short and sweet as I'm low on time. To be topical I will upload a song sung by none other than Paris Hilton. Yes, believe me, I'm one of the millions around the world who celebrated together and almost cried tears of joy as we watched her cry tears of agony and cry for her mommy and act like an 8 year old when she got sent back to the slammer, when she never should've been let out in the first place.

I will now post another song I got from the Ministry of Sound 2007 Annual album. This time it's a remix of the main song from Paris's sole album. Yes, it's "Stars Are Blind", and this particular dance remix was also included on the CD single to the song. It is known as the "Tracy Does Paris" remix, the Tracy in question being DJ Tracy Young. Trace does a nice job with the song; I mean, the original wasn't that bad, believe it or not (it certainly beat anything done by Lindsay Lohan) but Paris's vapid vocals (which are a perfect match for her entire persona) are great for dance songs, so it works.

I'll be back in 24 hours time with an 80's cover of a familiar classic rock radio station staple.

One Misanthrope Discussing Another

In today's comedy upload (the last one I'll do for awhile; I'll return on Sunday night with new song uploads) I will discuss the comedian that is ranked by many as being at or near the top alongside Pryor-of course I'm referring to George Carlin.

I realize that George is more hit and miss than Richard (especially when you talk about the contents of his books) but when he's on, he's great. I was privileged to see George perform at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas when I was there on Spring Break in 2002. I wanted to see a famous comedian perform in Las Vegas while I had the opportunity, and fortunately Carlin was there at the time. He mainly did the material from his HBO special Complaints & Grievances (which I saw a lot of while at a friend's house one night in late 2001), but I didn't mind hearing it again. In concert, he also bashed Las Vegas and how corporate and tourist it was.

Here is an entire album of his work. Now, it is hard to find his older album material or even any tracks from it (I have a cassette of his 70's work, including the famed Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television). This album I put up is great all around. It's 1992's "Jammin' In New York". The opening track discusses Bush & Iraq and how it was covered by the media; in 2007 it's just as relevant as it was 15 years ago. The rest of it is also great. Hopefully you won't have any problem d/l'ing the link, as I know that for some reason it's down at this moment.

Now here are some tracks (combined together under the name "Things That Piss Me Off" that I believe were recorded from the HBO special rather than the album "You're All Diseased", but in any matter, it's almost 15 minutes of George griping (no, I don't like him just because he gripes even more often than I do!) about cigars, angels, Harley-Davidson, and more.

Like I said, I'll be back Sunday night, and the Blair that puts up songs will return.

Richard Pryor + Black Eyed Peas = Interesting Post

Instead of what I had planned on uploading, here is something else, which is audio from an 80's VHS of a concert that Richard did in 1971. The video is called "Richard Pryor Live & Smokin'". Here is 42 minutes of audio taken from the DVD.

Tomorrow I will do the final comedy uploads for now; they will be stuff from George Carlin. After tomorrow I will get back to uploading songs.

Speaking of songs, I found out that there is a tribute album being released of John Lennon songs done as a way to raise money for the Darfur situation. As you can see, many major artists are involved, but some of them are people you'd rather not hear sing Lennon's solo tunes-for example, Avril Lavigne and the Black Eyed Peas! Thankfully they have sound samples up, and yeah, their covers sound terrible. If I can find the full songs online, I'll have to upload them on here. Like I said, I will be back on Friday with my final comedy uploads.

Video of A Comedy Legend

Unfortunately I ran into a problem with the album I downloaded that I hoped to upload, so instead , I will first post some links (remember to click on them to see the videos) to some visual evidence of Richard Pryor's talents. Comedy is an audio AND visual art. I mean, listening to albums is great but you lose out on things like facials. gestures, expressions, and overall body movement.

First, here is a video from the "Live on the Sunset Strip" movie. He talks about how he once worked for the Mafia.

Here is a clip from the "Live in Concert" movie. He talks about his run-in with the police.

In an educational vein, here is Part 1 of 6 of a British documentary on the man. The other volumes can be found in the list of similar videos to the right of the video.

I'll be back on Thursday with a posting of the new audio I'm still in the midst of downloading of Mr. Pryor, plus I will discuss an album I heard about just last night, and it's an album that appears to have some very horrifying tracks on it that of course I'll have to upload on here in the future just so I can mock them!

I'll Be Back Wednesday Evening

Unfortunately I ran out of time to do my planned post today so instead it will be up Wednesday night. That is all.
